EMR Cluster Launch Failures

We are investigating increased error rates when launching clusters in the US-EAST-1 Region.

Beginning 5:25 PM PDT, we are experiencing increased error rates when launching clusters in the US-EAST-1 Region. Our engineering teams have been engaged and are actively working to identify the root cause. In parallel, we are working on the mitigation plan. We will provide another update by 9:30 PM PDT, or sooner if we have additional information to share.

We are beginning to see signs of recovery. We continue to work towards resolving the increased error rates when launching clusters in the US-EAST-1 Region, for a subset of customers. Existing clusters are not affected. We will provide another update by 10:30 PM PDT, or sooner if we have additional information to share.

Between 5:25 PM and 9:30 PM PDT, we experienced increased error rates when launching clusters in the US-EAST-1 Region. Existing clusters were not affected. Engineers were engaged at 6:15 PM PDT and immediately began investigating. At 9:30 PM PDT, we reached full recovery. We recommend customers resubmit requests for failed cluster launches. The issue has been resolved and the services are operating normally.
